The Overview
Are you curious about the food that superspies and agents consume? What are they wearing when they’re not performing an off-the-books task? What are they supposed to tell their spouse when they’re in a location that is not disclosed and aren’t at home for dinner? The Family Man from Amazon Prime Video’s The Family Man answers all these questions and more. The story is set in Mumbai in a fictional security agency TASC.
The Family Man takes us into the world of Srikant Tiwari who is played with aplomb by Manoj Bajpayee, who apart from being a top intelligence officer, also happens to be a father who is struggling with his teenage daughter and unhappy marriage that has been strained in the past fifteen years. There is an unconfigured home loan to be set up and, at the same time, Tiwari is caught breaking the code to the imminent threat of terror.
The Family Man Cast
Manoj Bajpayee stars as Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class man secretly working as an intelligence officer for the Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC), a fictitious branch of the National Investigation Agency. The series is produced and directed by Raj & D.K, who also co-wrote the story and screenplay with Suman Kumar, with dialogue penned by Sumit Arora and Kumar. Samantha Akkineni was hired for the second season as the main antagonist, making her foray into the digital medium.
The series was announced in June 2018, with the filming of the first season beginning within May 2019. Filming for the second season began in November 2019 and was wrapped up in September 2020. Sumeet Kotla edited the series, while Ketan Sodha composed the background score. The cinematography for the first season was handled by Azim Moolan and Nigam Bomzan.
The Family Man Season 1 Review
Srikant and his team are on a cat-and-mouse chase to uncover an impending terror attack on India. Hints are collated and evidence is gathered which overwhelmingly points to an impending attack. The chase takes us to Kashmir, Quetta, Balochistan, and then New Delhi. Srikant’s team gathers intelligence through surveillance, phone tapping, and good old-fashioned analysis.
The tagline of the show is ‘Inspired From Daily News Stories’ and if by any chance you have missed out on what’s happening around us, this show will provide a Cliff Notes version to that as well.
Gaurakshaks, lynchings, beef controversy, imposition of Hindi (the show’s writers might have been ahead of the curve on that one), anti-nationals, all this is woven in seamlessly into the narrative. The chase also takes us to Kashmir where the plight of the average Kashmiri is also addressed. Additionally, the show also provides us a glimpse through how the origin of ISIS recruit to Godhra riots of 2002 are traced back to Kerala.
The Family Man Season 1 Story
Kudos to Sumit Arora, the dialogue writer, who has made intense topics, conversational not preachy. The humor is embedded, and Arora seems to be carrying forward the legacy of the film Stree. Manoj Bajpayee and Sharib Hashmi are stellar as are the dialogues. After the initial fumbles in the first three episodes, the show is fluid in its narrative. It’s interesting to see the hero grappling with a new world order, where a ‘Sarkari Naukri is synonymous with being a loser. The season ends on a cliff-hanger, and we can’t wait to know if Tiwari finally secures his home loan or not.
The Family Man Season 1 Release Date
The first episode of The Family Man Season 1 was aired on Amazon Prime Video (OTT Platform) on September 20, 2019. The season has a total of 10 seasons. Just go and binge watch them! However, season 1 is also followed by season 2 where they talk about the Tamil insurgency and rebels.
The Final Verdict!
This show bent the edge to make everybody human including the villain. It’s intriguing to see the protagonist struggling with a new order of the world in which a “Sarkari Naukri ” is synonymous with being an underdog since his actions are not in line with the coolness of his children ( especially talking about, the family man cast daughter). The story of the origins of our villain, even if it’s a little basic but is an interesting and refreshing take on the subject. We’d like to know a greater understanding of Srikant Tiwari. How did he get his start in TASC? What led him to get married to his wife? After the initial stumbles in the initial three seasons, this show has become fluid in its story. The season concludes on an ending that is a bit tense and again we’re eager to find out whether Tiwari is able to secure the loan for his house. Every bit of this series is worth watching.
